Chinese authorities have revealed the identity of a woman involved in an alleged attempt to blow up a Chinese passenger jet.

The police ministry says Guzalinur Turdi has confessed to an organised and premeditated terrorist sabotage act.

The woman, 19, belongs to China's mainly Muslim Uighur minority.

The China Southern Airlines flight was on its way to Beijing from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang region, on March 7.

Police say the terrorist plan, which involved a drink can filled with petrol, was foiled and the plane made an emergency landing in Lanzhou, a city halfway along the route.

Details about her alleged actions have previously been scarce, prompting scepticism from rights groups and exiled Uighurs about the incident.
