GOSHEN — Aviation enthusiasts celebrated the nation's birthday at the Goshen Freedom Fest Saturday at the Goshen Municipal Airport.

The skies were filled with high-flying stunts, from smoke writing to wing walking. There were also several vintage aircraft on the ground for people to get a good look.

Many of the pilots were on the ground to talk about the history of the plane and its role in past wars.

"What I like about this air show is that we have several different options, we have modern aircraft like the F-18 right off my shoulder, many older aircraft, we give back to the community," said Gary Treharne, the organizer. "It's more than just an air show; it's something for everyone."

The night will be capped off by a fireworks extravaganza at 10:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door for adults and $5 for kids. Veterans get in for free.

Looked like a perfect weekend for the festivity. Unfortunately I did not partake, but I did fly in from around Chicago at about midnight, wish I could have seen the fireworks at least. But being able to see from 20 miles out the lights of the cars leaving easier than the runway lights, that was awesome. I had to turn the lights up to the brightest level to find the runway. Then all the trash on the ramp, looks like everyone had fun. Maybe next year I'll stick around for the excitement.
