The Head, Media, EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi, who confirmed the arrest to our correspondent during a telephone conversation on Saturday, said the arrest was made in order to further enhance investigations into the N4.5bn fraud.

Meanwhile, a source from the EFCC has disclosed that Eze who was invited for interrogation, was being detained for refusing to unveil certain facts in his possession.

According to the source, Eze travelled out of the country alongside two others in the sector, regarding the Safe Tower project. The source said while the two others had opened up and confessed, Eze had continued to deny.

He said, ”The other two people that they travelled out together have opened up, but he has refused to. This is why he is being detained so that he can be subjected to further interrogation. He has refused to cooperate.”

It will be recalled that the Managing Director of an Austrian firm, Avsatel, Mr. George Eider, who handled the tower contract was arrested by EFCC at the Senate Chambers two weeks ago, after giving his statement at the public hearing.

Eider‘s arrest followed a declaration by the contractor to the Senate Committee on aviation, Mr. Daniel Omale, saying the Safe Tower contract was inflated by N4.5bn.

According to Omale, the contract should not be more than N1bn or at most N1.5bn, and that even if 100 per cent profit was added, it should not exceed N2bn.

A source from the industry confirmed that Eze‘s was because he represented NAMA among the team of aviation agencies‘ experts that went with Avsatel to inspect the types and quatity of infrastructure to be brought into the country.

A source in NAMA disclosed that Eze who is serving under the Present NAMA, MD, Captain Ado Sanusi, served under the former MD, captain Roland Iyayi, who was arrested along with Dr. Babalola Aborishade and Femi Fani Kayode last Monday.

Fani-Kayode and Aborishade who were docked during last week at an Abuja court were refused bail.
